Small Beginnings
About us
The Beginning ...
Years ago I took over my grandfather's estate in London. As a duke I was introduced to British high society. I didn't want ball parties, caviar and champagne, but warm bites, freshly tapped pints and good conversations. I found the casual cosiness in the pub. I ignored my duties as a duke and hung out at the bar day and night.
My rebellious, cocky attitude quickly made me the most eligible bachelor in London. I wasn't looking forward to marrying a lady of my rank, so I fled to a city with balls: Rotterdam. Even here I was looking for my vocation night after night. I lay awake at night until I ended up on the Witte de Withstraat. Here I had a hunch: to open my own English pub.
The place where the smell of fresh British bites and beers welcome you. The interior has been given a classic, burgundy, oak and brass jacket. Where the rebellious skulls in the ceiling and the raw figures on the wall surprise you. Where the stained glass, typical English floral wallpaper and vintage crockery take you to London. The menu fills up with my favorite family dishes. From sticky toffee to Scotch eggs and English pie. You can of course wash these daily fresh dishes down with the ciders and gin tonics selected by me from British and Dutch soil. As duke and owner of the first English gastropub in Rotterdam, I invite all dukes & duchesses to Dutch Dukes.
Will I see you soon?
The duke.
